About

The government has a working group investigating the feasibility of the business cage to merge RNZ with TVNZ in a mixed funding model. TVNZ is currently 95% commercial and RNZ is publicly funded except for its ability to raise revenue from programmes that have been previously broadcasted free to air. If RNZ and TVNZ merge in a mixed funding model, it will mean that we will no longer have a public service broadcaster that is non commercial in New Zealand. This is huge and needs a nationwide discussion! #FundRNZ it’s #OurRNZ !

The original Fund RNZ campaign was about :”Radio New Zealand Limited, New Zealand’s only public service broadcaster. It delivers high-quality, impartial, journalism and a wide variety of content, including coverage of issues in the Pacific region. This organisation has had its funding frozen for at least nine years, only to be unfrozen by a mere $2.8 million per year. It is still operating under a $12 million funding shortfall in its current form. RNZ deserves a funding increase because it needs to be properly resourced, not just this year, but in future years so that it can continue to deliver on its charter and provide the same standard of content that has given RNZ its fine reputation.”
